I began my career in London advertising agencies, initially specialising in retail accounts and running both Tesco and Fine Fare, before going on to manage well known consumer brands including Heinz and Whitbread.

In 1980, I moved into commercial radio, joining Capital Radio Sales where I was responsible for a number of marketing initiatives, including developing the first ever network sales opportunities. From there, I became General Manager at Independent Radio Sales, overseeing national sales for 28 local stations. I later joined LBC and IRN as their first Head of Marketing, PR and Promotions.

In 1989, I became the youngest Managing Director in commercial radio when Capital Radio appointed me to launch Fox FM in Oxford.

Over the next four decades, I had the privilege of managing some of the most successful stations in the UK, including Fox FM, Rock FM, Key103, and Radio City. The launch of The Hits remains the most successful in digital radio history, attracting over 800,000 listeners in its very first audience survey.

I also managed EMAP Radio’s online portfolio, served on the EMAP Radio board and chaired the UK Radio Network Promotions Committee.

The stations I led were fortunate to receive numerous industry awards, including Sony Station of the Year at both Fox and Radio City. We also won the World’s No1 Top 40 Station award twice at the New York Awards. I was honoured to be voted one of the top four UK radio managers in two of the three British Radio Awards decided by the industry itself. I was also part of the UK expansion team for Canadian media company CanWest.

In 2009, I became Managing Partner of the National Broadcasting School and focused on training the next generation of radio talent, many of whom now hold high profile roles across the industry. Over the years, I have also served as a judge for the BBC Gillard Awards, the Sony Awards and the Arqiva Awards.

Beyond broadcasting, I have held roles as an Ambassador for Merseyside, Entrepreneurship Commissioner and Chair of the Liverpool Comedy Trust.

I live in Birkenhead and am the proud father of my daughter, Holly. I have also been a Director of North Wales Crusaders, the professional RFL team.

Sport has always been part of my life. I was selected for Scottish Schoolboys rugby and represented Great Britain three times with the GB Lions American Football team, including the first ever international against France, where I sacked the French quarterback in a historic win. I also played for the London Ravens when we beat USAF Chicksands on 4 July, marking the first time an American side had been defeated by a foreign team.

More recently, I owned and managed the Bank Café and Bar in Hoylake. After selling the business in October 2025, I am now exploring new adventures and opportunities.
